Faridkot: Unable to cope with failure in two subjects, Sandeep Singh, son of a poor and illiterate labourer of village Ghumiara in Faridkot district, killed himself on Sunday. He took the extreme step after declaration of the Senior Secondary Examination-2017 result by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on Saturday.
Motherless Sandeep was a student of Class 12 (Humanities) at the Government Senior Secondary School at village Chandbaja of the district. Forced to do labour after school hours to support his studies, the boy did rather well in other three subjects. The result was not along the expected lines for immediately after knowing the result, he went into unusual isolation, said grieving neighbor Gurmail Singh whose milch cattle he used to tend after school hours.
“He was a hardworking boy, used to do labour after school hours to support his studies,” added Gurmail Singh while talking to babushahi.com over phone. He failed in English and History papers. But his score of 49, 59 and 61 in remaining Punjabi (General), Punjabi (Elective), Physical Education & Sports papers showed he wasn’t that overall poor in studies.
