After serving the highest Sikh institution for 10 years, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Friday urged the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to relieve him from the responsibility with immediate effect. Jathedar, who is in the soup for past some time, has cited his poor health condition as the reason for taking the decision to quit the position. Notably, Daily Post had indicated the same on October 14.In his letter, Giani Gurbachan Singh counted upon various achievements which included the struggle to rescue Davinder Singh Bhullar and Balwant Singh Rajaoana from the death gallows, ordered by the courts. He also mentioned about the support and assistance provided in the constructionof memorial in the honour of Jernail Singh Bhindrawale and his associates killed in 1984. Interestingly, Jathedar didn’t forget to write about the most controversial decision-exoneration to dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
