While Kicking off a state-wide drive for the awareness of complete eradication of tobacco on Tuesday, Punjab Health Minister, Brahm Mohindra stated that the state will become tobacco free soon as efforts in this direction have been initiated.
The Minister flagged off a special van from Mata Kaushla Hospital here for the above said purpose. He further said that the van will go to each district and tour at least five places there and show the slides and other relevant material to the people about the side effects of tobacco on human bodies.
Minister said that tobacco is causes Cancer, which is taking the shape of the epidemic especially in the Southern parts of the state.
He quipped that tobacco is taking 3,500 lives daily in the country and the figure will come down only with the help of the people.
Mohindra also said that with the efforts of the Health Department more than 300 villages of the state has been declared as tobacco-free villages. He said that Chief Minister has given clear cut instructions to eradicate the drug menace from the state with an iron hand and nobody will be spared.
“Te state government is now involved in breaking the supply line of drug peddlers and on the other hand its soft towards those dragged to take drugs by others,” stated minister.
Speaking over the future students of Gian Sagar Hospital, minister added that government will leave no stone unturned and is bound to safeguard interests of students. “ The government after getting clearance of Medical Council of India (MCI) will adjust the students to other medical institutions in state,” stated Mohindra.
