Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): Perhaps the Punjab will be the first state, where in the forthcoming Panchayat elections; the candidate may have to submit his or her nomination papers along with dope test report. The Punjab Government is going to introduce this rule, shortly. Talking to Daily Post, the rural development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa told that in the coming Cabinet meeting, such issue would be brought. He told that this step will be taken to prevent the entry of addicted persons in the grassroots level of Panchayati Raj system and it will be the right time for right work.Earlier, the Punjab Government has announced dope test for all government employees, including Punjab Police officials. On the moral ground some Minister including rural development minister Bajwa has decided to their dope test to set an example. Going a step ahead, the rural development has decided to conduct election with dope test report as mandatory for all candidates’ men or women. Minister told that after the confirmation from the Cabinet, the dope test decision would be sent to the State Election Commission for implementation. According to detail, the number of gram panchayats in the state are 13028, 22 Zila Parishad and 148 Panchayat samitis. The numbers of seats in all three institutions may be gone up to more than 1.30 lacs including members of Panchayats and sarpanchs, members of Zila Prishad and Panchayat samitis and if multiply 5 candidates against each seats, the numbers of candidates may be gone more than 6.50 lacs.
