Yet, there are always doers like Sumita Misra, who not only is the Principal Secretary of Tourism in Haryana, but also a poet, author, and of course a traveller.
‘A Kaleidoscope of Journeys’ is the title of her photo exhibition, which can be visited at Sector 10 Art Gallery till 5th March, Sunday.
Dressed in a beautiful saree, the lady of the hour interacted with us and gave us an insight of creative work.
In her first photo exhibition, she features 50 photographs of her 10 years of travelling. “I always wanted to have an exhibition, but there was never that right moment. It had around ten thousand photographs, from which I had to select fifty. It took me three months just to do that,” says Sumita.
Being a senior bureaucrat in the government for over 25 years, Sumita tells lover her work, but she makes sure that it doesn’t get the better of her. “I love my administrative work, and I work harder to keep up to my creative space.”
Her exhibition showcases stills from around the world. Be it Kedarnath or the streets of Venice, Sumita is a nature person like many, and she finds peace in the moments of serenity through her photographers.
Much like her poetry, her photos speak a lot about the passionate artiste. She tells us that most of the shots have come from the random journey while she is walking, or sightseeing.
“Everyone has their own way of composition. Being a poet, I find poetry in photographs as well. For me, an empty bench is like a poem,” shares Samita, who in her college days used to be inspired from the American photographer, Ansel Adams, who was famous for landscape photography. She reveals more about her life beyond being a government servant. She writes blogs, can be seen quite active on facebook and twitter.
“Being chronically sleep deprived helps me to be creatively more active. Usually, I am reading, but these days I am writing.”
It won’t be wrong to say that Sumita is a doer and a dreamer. Last but not the least, this multitasker assures that she will keep coming back with her creative ventures.
