After she was crowned Mrs India Globe 2013, life took a tremendous turn for Patalia/Canada- based Bir Kaur Dhillon. Now four years later, she is the director of Mrs India Globe and Mr Manhunt International.
Bir was in Chandigarh along with winners of Mrs India Globe 2016 and Mr Manhunt 2016.
In an interactive session, she opened up about her career and vision for the modeling industry.
Own venture
In 2014, Bir started her own beauty pageant company called Mrs India Beauty Queen (MIBQ). She tells us that it was her own moment of glory in Mrs India Globe that inspired her to start her own venture.
“My experience of winning the title was amazing, and my life transformed after that.”
The beauty queen believes that it’s a very daunting task to run your own company, and from her experience, she says that people are still unaware of the kind of opportunities present in the modeling industry.
Reality check
Been in the fashion scene for over 10 years, Bir has tried her hands on fashion designing as well. Her label Kaur Couture, which is active in Canada, is a pure traditional Punjabi clothing store.
Promoting Phulkari in Canada, where she resides with her husband and two children, Bir wants to bring business back to the rooted Phulkari makers in Punjab. She humbly says that there is a goal to be accomplished. And honestly adds, “To stay in the business you have to sell your product, and currently I am focusing on MIBQ.”
Talking about her journey, Bir believes that in the quest of being successful, good things can be achieved. “The same happened with me. I didn’t sit back with my crown. I started to work in the same field.” She further talks about the scenario of beauty pageants in Punjab.
“Pageants are still underrated in Punjab. They have stereotypes attached to them.” We ask why? She tells us, “In Chandigarh there are at least women going to kitty parties, but in other places around the state, women still feel tabooed with the modeling world. There is no exposure.”
But she is glad to see some real good talent coming out of Chandigarh, and is proud to be associated with the young Gurmehar Grewal who won Mr India Manhunt 2016, and the winner of Mrs India Globe 2016 Aditi Swaraj Sharma.
Bir is still in a quest to promote the culture of beauty pageants in Punjab, and has started the hunt for the fresh faces this year.
