Ludhiana: Within few hours after the attack on Sikh preacher associated with Damdami Taklsa, the police have apprehended three persons, on Sunday at Ludhiana. The accused have been identified as Joga Singh, Harsimrat Singh and Gurdeep Singh natives of Ludhiana. Preliminary investigation revealed that around a dozen armed men were involved in the attack. Station house officer (SHO) Shimlapuri said that the police teams have been dispatched to trace the whereabouts of the absconders. Meanwhile, the case has been registered against the eight persons.
The incident took place in afternoon at Vishkarama colony near Gill road when around ten persons attacked preacher associated with Damdami Taksaland damaged the Innova car. Victim Sandeep Singh has come to attend a religious ceremony at the Gurdwara of Vishkarma colony. A group of sikh in the ceremony opposed the honor to Sandeep Singh that turned in violence.
In the middle of the ceremony, the group of alleged accused persons attacked preacher Sandeep Singh and dragged him outside the Gurdwara. An eyewitness in his statement said that the accused have opposed for giving “Siropa” to Sandeep Singh during the religious ceremony and later entered in scuffle. The accused were of the view that activists of Damdami Taksal were involved in attack on Sikh preacher ranjit Singh Dhadriawala and they should not be given honor. The victim Sandeep Singh who received injuries claimed that the accused have also snatched Rs two lakh from him.
It is pertinent to mention here that Damdami Taksal and supporters of Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadriawala were at loggerheads after the attack on Dhadriawala in Ludhiana on May 17. Bhupinder Singh, aide of Dhadriawala was killed in the attack and the persons arrested in the case were associated with Damdami Taksal.
