Khanna: Five workers were seriously injured in a massive blast at the Godrej Poultry Feeds Factory in village Ikolaha near Malerkotla road at 4 PM today.
The blast reportedly took place when the machine was running. However, the cause of the blast could not be confirmed immediately.
The injured persons have been identified as Baldev Singh, Ravinder Singh, Hans Raj, Balwinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh who have been rushed to Civil Hospital at Khanna. Later, Baldev Singh, Ravinder Singh and Hans Raj who sustained serious injuries, were referred to DMCH, Ludhiana.
On being contact, SHO Khanna Sadar Bhupinder Singh confirmed the incident and told that as per factory officials a big belt that run the machine broke down suddenly as the machine seized all of sudden and the belt hit the employees and they got injuries. He added that Khanna police were trying to know the actual cause of the occurrence of the incident.
SHO further said that no case was registered in this regard so far as they were enquiring the matter. The company’s manager Dharminder Singh stated that they are helping the injured employees and all the expenditures of injured will be borne by them.
Yashpal Gomi, Fire Officer, Khanna said that they doused the fire in a few minutes, which had broke out immediately after occurrence of the blast. He apprehended that the blast took place in boiler in the factory during working hours. About 130 workers were working at the time of occurrence of the incident, however, majority of the workers remained unhurt.
