Jalandhar: BSP Punjab President Avtar Singh Karimpuri on Saturday said that after coming to power, BSP would make Punjab liquor free state and wipe out the drugs abuse problem within a month’s time from the state.
Karimpuri said that the BSP would prove SAD-BJP and the congress wrong in their claims that state’s economy was dependent on ‘liquor’ sales. “BSP would streamline the tax system and bring transparency in the procurement and sale of sand, gravel, lands and other such major sources of revenue. As far as drugs abuse was concerned, BSP would wipe it out of Punjab within one month”, he said.
Recently, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had also announced in Jalandhar that after coming to power, drugs problem would be brought to an end by the party within one month. The AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chottepur also announced that they would wipe out drugs problem within two-month’s time.
The BSP Punjab president however evaded a query on his direct comparison with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Karimpuri said, “The BSP was not going to follow the ‘Nitish Kumar’ model of making Punjab a liquor free state. But, the party was concerned over this issue, as liquor consumption was the foundation of domestic violence in most of the homes.”
Earlier, in the day, Karimpuri announced the joining of RTI activist Ajay Sehgal in the BSP. He said that the RTI activist was working to bring transparency in the society through his works, now he would work for he BSP on the same lines.
Further, talking about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Karimpuri said that RSS engineered the riots in connivance with the congress. “Now, RSS was talking of justice to Sikhs”, he said.
