Rubina Bajwa has been turning heads around for her debut film Sargi, which was been directed by her elder sister and the much celebrated Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa. After the trailer launch of the film, comparisons from head to toe had started between the siblings. In a candid interaction with dailylife, Rubina opens about her life, work, and relationships.
Born in Canada, Rubina was always inclined towards teaching. “I was like a girl next door who wanted to become a teacher. But I saw Neeru going for shoots, and that made me secretly dream of becoming an actress,” says the 25-year-old who is still in awe with the glamour world.
She further reveals that it was her father’s dearest wish to see her become an actress someday. While recalling those moments, she gets teary-eyed, “It’s more than often that I remember those moments with him. I sincerely wish that he was alive to see my debut film. But I know, his blessings are still with me.”
On a lighter note, Rubina talks about working under her sister’s direction. She tells us, if she hadn’t fit in the character of Sargi, Neeru would have never given her this opportunity.
“Neeru very well understands what she needs as a director. Being her little sister, I was not pampered on the sets. I was treated equally like others,” Rubina shares.
When we asked about how she deals with the comparisons and the much talked about allegations on Neeru dubbing her voice in the film, she humbly replies, “Comparisons would always made between us, and they will only help me to grow professionally. But creatively, I can never be like Neeru. She has reached another level. I don’t see myself there yet.”
“And about the controversy, I really got disappointed when there were allegations made that Neeru dubbed for me. No! It never happened,” she adds.
The rookie actress has high hopes from her first film. And in a soft tone she quips, “I am a big romantic person in real life. Surely, I look forward to do more rom-coms, but meanwhile I want to enjoy this moment as Sargi.”
