New Delhi: Tracking gains in base metals atthe London Metal Exchange, copper prices were up 1.11 per cent to Rs 395.55 per kg in futures trade today.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February traded higher by Rs 4.35, or 1.11 per cent, at Rs 395.55 per kg, in a business turnover of 3,443 lots.
The metal for delivery in April moved by Rs 4.15, or 1.05 per cent, to trade at Rs 399.75 per kg in 169 lots.
Analysts said apart from a firming trend in copper and other base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME), rising physical demand at the domestic spot market supported the upside.
Globally, copper three-month forwards jumped 1.3 per cent at the LME as workers at the world’s biggest copper mine vowed to start an indefinite strike on Thursday as talks with BHP Billiton failed to produce an agreement following weeks of collective bargaining in Chile. PTI
