Ludhiana: Acting upon a detailed investigative story under headline ‘PTSs issuing certificates without verification’, appearing in ‘Daily Ludhiana’ (page 1) on Thursday, the local concerned authorities have swung into action and initiated action against the pollution testing stations allegedly involved in issuing certificates without checking the pollution level of two-wheeler with the required equipment. The report was carried after Daily Post got conducted a ‘sting operation’ on June 20. On being contact on Thursday, Dalwinderjeet Singh, District Transport Officer (DTO), Ludhiana said “We are going to issue show cause notices to the three PTSs as to why those were not conducting the pollution check level of the vehicles with the specific equipments.”
Further, the DTO told that they would be serving notices to the three PTSs positively by Monday. For the last so many days, complaints were pouring in that most of the Pollution Testing Centers in the city were conducting pollution level check without having specific equipments needed for the same and issuing clearance certificates. To physically check the ‘erring’ PTSs, a sting operation was conducted, in which the PTSs in question were exposed. To carry the sting operation, the Daily Post team had brought a Hero Honda motor-cycle bearing No.PB-10-DR-8676 to four different Pollution Testing Stations situated at Cemetery Road Civil Lines (at 4.38 pm), Link road, Model Town (at 4.45 pm), Pakhowal Road crossing (at 5.05 pm) and Ferozepur road, opposite Milk Plant (at 5.32 pm).
Surprisingly, the first three PTSs came under scanner as these all issued the clearance certificate of the motorcycle without checking its pollution level with any equipment. In fact, these three PTSs were not having any pollution check instruments specified by the department. This shows how efficiently pollution testing stations were functioning. These above three PTSs issued clearance certificates to the motorcycle without carrying it to the specified equipment. In fact, these all three PTSs had not the specific equipments to check the pollution level of the vehicles. The exposure had put a question mark on the functioning of these stations even when the city is heading to become a Smart City after it got listed in the list of Smart Cities across the country. With the sting operation done by Daily Post, a big scam of these PTSs came into light as it was revealed that a most of these pollution check centers were not having the instruments/ apparatus/machines needed for checking of the pollution level of the vehicles.
