Patiala: In the lust of money, a father turned a kidnapper and targeted his own blood to grab the money from his family member. Rajpura based man abducted his 10-year-old son and demanded ransom of Rs 10 lakh from victim’s grandfather. The victim was unaware that a joy ride with father turned to be a kidnapping incident and to end the ride grandfather has to pay Rs 10 lakh to his father.
The accused father Ravinder Singh and his aide Bhupinder Singh was arrested by the police, who were involved in the conspired the crime. Ravinder Singh, who owns a mobile shop in Rajpura was aware about the money deposited in his father’s bank account. Accused Ravinder conspired the kidnapping to get the saving of his father in the form of ransom. However, the police have cracked the case with the help of call details. The accused Ravinder Singh mad ransom calls from his friend’s number that was traced by the police during the course of investigation.
While depicting the information, SSP Patiala, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that following the suspect the police questioned the father regarding his missing son. The leads turned substantial and accused father confessed the crime and revealed his lust for money in preliminary interrogation. Ravinder Singh told police that after abducting he took his son to Bhupinder’s place and participated in lodging police complaints. He also told the police that his father had savings of `12 lakh in his account.
Superintendent of Police (SP investigations) informed that the accused himself made a police complaint about his missing child and also informed about the ransom demand over the phone. He added that police had recovered the child within hours after the complainant lodged the complaint with the police and recovered the child. In the initial FIR, police had registered a case under section 364 A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at City Rajpura Police station.
After tracing the case police interchanged the sections with 342, 420 and 506 (criminal intimation), as he was trying to dupe his father for money. SP said that Ravinder was in the business of mobiles and was addicted to some bad habits which resulted in the separation with his wife.
He added that after separation he continued with his bad habits and due to shortage of money, he planned to cheat his own father.
Mobile number led to trace the case
Suspicion raised when the police traced the phone number of ransom call, which led the police to trace the case easily. The accused had separated the mobile number a few days ago and lodged a complaint with police about the stolen sim card. SP Virk said that when they obtained the call list and other technical details about the ransom call they found the matter fishy. He added that after a short period of investigation, Ravinder admitted the crime and told the whole story.
