A VB inquiry was already ordered by CM Badal in the alleged Rs 100 crore land scam in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur: A week after Vigilance Bureau (VB) inquiry was ordered, Punjab DGP Suresh Arora on Wednesday constituted a three member Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the alleged Rs 100 crore land scam in Hoshiarpur.
The SIT comprised of DIG Shiv Kumar Verma, SSP Vigilance Rupinder Singh and SP rank officer Parveen Kanda. The SIT would probe the involvement of local Akali leaders in land acquisition done by NHAI authorities.
Notably, the SIT was formed after CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi on his visit to Piplanwala on Wednesday afternoon categorically named Hoshiarpur MP and BJP Punjab Chief Vijay Sampla, CM’s Political Advisor and BJP leader Tikshan Sood, ex Rajya Sabha member and senior BJP leader Avinash Rai Khanna and even Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in this case.
The local SAD-BJP leaders were named in the land scam from day one but with CLP leader Channi openly naming senior leaders of the state politics, the case was likely to witness political developments in the coming days.
It is pertinent to mention here that RTI Activist Rajiv Vashisht exposed the land scam, where local leaders namely Avtar Singh Johal, Satinder Singh Thatt and councilor Harpinder Singh who was close to MP Sampla figured out in this case.
It was alleged by RTI Activist Vashisht that these leaders threatened the local farmers that they would not be getting fair amount of land, hence it should be sold to them. Later, these leaders sold this land at whopping prices to the NHAI authorities who were acquiring land for the four landing project of Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur.
