The police on Wednesday arrested the three accused wanted in the murder of Manpreet, a law student in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur: In an encounter, the Hoshiarpur Police on Wednesday arrested three main accused of ‘Kala Falahi gang’ wanted in the murder of Manpreet Singh, a law student, who was done to death at Regional Campus of Swami Sarvanand Giri Punjab University, Bajwara last month.
A police party led by Mukhtiar Singh Randhawa, DSP Investigation, acting on tip off laid a naka at different locations of Hoshiarpur, Garhshankar and Una in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The police maintained that around 7.15 pm on Tuesday, a suspicious movement of XYLO car bearing number PB 01-A-2110 with three persons in it was noticed.
Addressing a press conference, Hoshiarpur SSP Kuldip Singh Chahal said that when the police tried to stop the XYLO car, three youth hurriedly tried to rush the car towards Binowal to Mansowal village road. “One of the car borne youth fired at the police party. In return, the police party also fired at the car of the accused and the bullet hit one of the tyres of the vehicle, after which it hit a stock of gravel on the roadside”, he said.
The SSP said that upon arresting the trio, they were indentified as Satwinder Singh alias Kala, a resident of Falahi (Mehtiana), Satnam Singh alias Amna, resident of Hazipur from Garhshankar and Bhupinder Kumar alias Sonu from Maruli Brahmana also from Mehtiana.
SSP Chahal maintained that during investigation Satwinder Singh revealed that on May 21, he along with his accomplices shot Manpreet Singh alias Manna and later attacked him with weapons. Satwinder was facing criminal cases registered against him at Mehtiana, Garhshankar (Hoshiarpur), Nangal (Ropar) and Goraya in Jalandhar, the SSP added.
Satwinder’s other two accomplices namely Satnam alias Amna was also facing a murder case at Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur and an NDPS Act case at Kapurthala. Similarly, Bhupinder Kumar alias Sonu was also facing a loot case at Mehtiana.
The police recovered 2 kg smack, two 7.65 mm pistol, one .315 bore pistol and a single barrel 12 bore pistol, three live cartridges of 7.65 mm pistol, one live cartridge of 315 bore pistol, eight live cartridges of 12 bore pistol and a car from the possession of three accused.
On May 21, some unidentified assailants had killed a 24 year old law student, Manpreet Singh of the Regional Campus of Swami Sarvanand Giri Punjab University, Bajwara in full public view.
The victim, who was the son of a Punjab Police Assistant Sub Inspector had come out of the campus in his gypsy bearing number PB 60A 8919 around 6 pm, when the attackers waylaid him. He sustained severe sharp weapon injuries on his entire body. He was rushed to the civil hospital but declared brought dead.
Later, on May 27, the Hoshiarpur police had claimed to have cracked the murder case of Manpreet and arrested two brothers namely Karan and Ravi, residents of Tarn Taran. Manpreet was done to death due to old rivalry and fight for leadership among students.
