Malout: Tension prevailed in Malout of District Mukatsar in Punjab after a mob attacked vehicles and vandalised public property while staging a Dharna against alleged slaughtering of cows, which were being transported in a vehicle to an unknown place. The van carrying the slaughtered cows apprehended by group of people on shiekhu road of the town on intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
According to sources, the police officials took a while in reaching the spot after the vehicle was vandalised by the mob in which the Cows were being transported. Soon after the news spread in the area, people from various Hindu organisations and Local leaders of Bharatiya Janta Party gathered for a protest which eventually turned up violent as the mob stone pelted the vehicles passing by National Highway 10 on GT road Malout flyover which connects Fazilka to New Delhi.
Taking advantage of the situation, Few local Congress leaders also joined in and raised slogans against MLA Malout Harpreet Singh kotbhai, alleging him of being a counterpart. Talking to daily post , MLA Kotbhai said that he highly condemns the act and he has always been against cow slaughtering. “Police have arrested the accused and they will be punished as per law if found guilty since we have full faith in our judicial system” , added Kotbhai. However, the police said that the accused persons have been identified, but no arrest has been made so far.
The police have registered the case against 5 persons. The accused have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, resident of Depot wali gali in Malout and Rakesh Kumar native of Malout, other three remain unidentified. So Far, no arrests have been made by the police. Balraj , a police official of Police station Malout confirmed the development.
Reports of vandalism of public property has also been received , However no one has been injured in the violent act.
Advocating his party’s pro cow agenda, MLA Kotbhai said that he and his party has always supported the biggest Gaushala of this region which is being run by pandit Girdhari lal.
