Jalandhar: A UK-based NRI settled in Jalandhar on Saturday alleged that the local police had sought Rs 10,000 from him for settling a property dispute case involving his step son.
NRI Parminder Singh Nandra, who remarried five years ago alleged that his step son Amandeep Singh (26) and his wife Sunita Devi was deliberately trying to implicate him in a property matter, after he recently disowned him. The NRI issued an advertisement declaring that he had disowned his son on November 1, 2015 reportedly due to his wrong behaviour.
The NRI claimed that he even approached the NRI police station and sent an application to Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar but to no avail. Nandra got remarried in the year August 2011 and since, and then he has been putting up in Jalandhar with his second wife.
While Amandeep Singh and his wife Sunita claimed that the NRI borrowed Rs 2.50 lakh from him, Nandra said that he did not owe a single penny to them. “My step son never accepted me as his father, after I got married to their mother Kashmir Kaur. I got my step son married last year. But, soon after the wedding Amandeep, his wife Sunita and some family members from my daughter-in-law’s side started harassing me. They had been demanding a fare share in the property, which I did not want to give”, he said.
Talking to Daily Post, Nandra said that when he approached Assistant Sub Inspector Rakesh Kumar from Bhargo Camp for registering a complaint, he sought Rs 10,000 from him. “I paid Rs 10,000 to ASI Rakesh Kumar, thinking that the matter would settle down but my step daughter-in-law blamed me that I owed them money. Hence, the dispute”, he added.
Further, the NRI said that his daughter-in-law’s family filed a complaint with SHO Police Division number 7 Navdeep Singh and he too threatened him that his passport would be seized. SHO Navdeep said, “We have filed the complaint as per the claims of Sunita Devi and investigation was being done as per rule of law.”
Nandra said that he stayed in Jalandhar, as he wanted to complete the formalities of taking his second wife and daughter to UK. “The local police have been harassing me for no fault of mine. All my efforts to seek justice have fallen on deaf ears”, he added.
