Ludhiana: In what comes across as a reply to the bangles protest on law and order organized by the District Congressmen on Friday, the Ludhiana district Youth Akali Dal activists on Saturday chose an equally symbolic way to make their point against Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu. The YAD activists presented a pair of glasses to Bittu with the request to wear them so that he could be enabled to see the development work done in the state by SAD- BJP government with a clear vision!
Bittu, perhaps, saw this coming and he proved equal to the occasion. For not only did he come out of his office, he greeted the protestors with roses and treated them all to glasses of cool lassi to beat the heat! Bittu, however, refused to accept the specs saying that Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had probably purchased them from China and it was a “defective” piece.
At one point the situation turned a little tense when the YAD activists and Congressmen started raising slogans against each other. The situation was bought under control by the police force, which intervened and averted a scuffle.
The YAD activists had gathered near South City in the morning to reach the house of Bittu at Janpath Estates but the police did not allow the protestors due to security reasons. Later, the protestors headed towards the office of Bittu at Mini secretariat complex. Perhaps it was on account of the sun beating down on them, but while on the way the YAD leaders entered into a scuffle with each other and the situation was brought under control only after the intervention of senior leaders.
Accompanied by Gurdeep Gosha, Gurpreet Babbal, Manpreet Chatwal and others YAD Malwa Zone President Tarsem Singh Bhinder said that they had presented specs to Bittu and asked him to wear them so that he could see the development projects done by SAD- BJP government in Punjab. They said that protest against the government organized by the Congressmen on Friday was a mere eyewash and the latter were out just to get some publicity.
As the protesters reached Bittu’s office, he was already waiting for them and was able to cool them down with the classic Gandhigiri move of presenting a rose, and a cool glass of lassi to top it all. On insistence of the protesters, Bittu later on accepted the big size box containing the specs.
Taking a dig on YAD activists, Bittu said he was ready to wear the specs if they had the power to help him see the culprits behind the sacrilege incidents, killers of Mata Chand Kaur, attackers of Dhadrianwale, and a solution for the protestors demanding their rights across the state. He said that the common people did not need any kind of glasses to view the developments in the state and the dramatics of YAD activists would not work any longer.
