Actors Sanjeev Seth and Lata Seth of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai open up about after-effects of exit of popular Characters from the show, and more
“When it comes to marriage celebrations, Punjabis are class apart,” says Sanjeev, who came in his character’s avatar of Vishambhar and looked eager to meet fans who may get featured in the show.
Yeh Rishta…, known for its family-oriented plot, has been running for 8 years now. Lata calls it not only India’s but Asia’s longest running show. Despite the departure of Karan Mehra and Rohan Mehra, whose characters Naitik and Naksh became a popular name among the audience, the show is still doing well.
We asked the duo about the after-effects of their exit. “See, we all are actors who work in a show. So, there is no artiste bigger than the show. The actor doesn’t make a show, it’s the show that makes the actor,” shares Sanjeev while acknowledging the contribution of Karan and Rohan.
Though the times have changed, but Yeh Rishta… still carries the same background theme of being a conventional moralistic daily television soap. On that note, Lata quips, “I think it’s good to teach morals through entertainment. Our audience has never left us, and that is why the show has seen immense success. So… why the need for a change?
Taking about the same, Sanjeev reveals how his character, Vishambhar, has given him a different identity altogether. “Wherever I go people only relate to me as Vishambhar.
The reel life character has given me so much in real life as well, and I have been always appreciative about it,” says Sanjeev, who met Lata on the sets of Yeh Rishta…. The reel life couple has been married for 6 years and are blessed with a three-year-old daughter.
“There is no artiste bigger than the show. The actor doesn’t make a show, it’s the show that makes the actor.”

Coming out of the romantic real life nostalgia, we ask Sanjeev and Lata about the past where the storyline of the show has given shocking twits as the main characters died or disappeared. Sanjeev smirks and says, “If the show wants Vishambhar to die, then he will die. I will happily accept it…”
Here Lata chips in saying, “Let’s not talk about death, when there is a marriage in our family. The stage is set and Vishambhar is ready to match the dance steps with the baraatis.”
