Jalandhar: Condemning Congress for comparing Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh with “Mard Agambra”, the religious title used for Guru Gobind Singh, AAP leader and senior advocate HS Phoolka on Sunday said that desperate Congress was resorting to such tactics fearing their defeat in assembly elections.
Phoolka also lashed out at Navjot Singh Sidhu’s distortion of the religious couplet used for Guru Gobind Singh “Jab tak Congress bahal na karau, Sidhu naam na kehau”. “Congress should be ashamed of such shameful acts”, he said.
The senior AAP leader said that PPCC Secretary Harbans Singh Pandher compared Captain Amarinder Singh with “Mard Agambra” at Fatehgarh Sahib on Saturday, which was highly deplorable and condemnable. “Congress was deliberately doing this, so as to disturb the peace of Punjab by instigating Sikhs through this shameful act”, Phoolka added.
Phoolka added that Congress leader should have applied his mind before hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs. It is pertinent to mention here that head granthi of Fatehgarh Sahib Gurudwara, Harpal Singh has stated that Pandher should be summoned before Akal Takht Sahib for this shameful act.
Phoolka also criticised Navjot Sidhu, who distorted the popular Sikh couplet through his statement in Amritsar in which he reportedly said “Jab tak Congress bahal na karau, Sidhu nam na kehau”. “Doesn’t Sidhu despite being a Sikh know that what wrong he has done by distorting the ‘shabad’ used for Guru Gobind Singh?” Phoolka asked.
“Sidhu’s statement indicates that Congress was dumped in Punjab and he was brought by Rahul Gandhi to revive it”, Phoolka said adding that even Sidhu would not be able to revive Congress, which was a sinking ship.
It is pertinent to mention here that SGPC Chief Kirpal Singh Badungar has taken serious note of Sidhu’s act and advised Sidhu to refrain himself from doing such type of shameful act.
Terming the BJP Manifesto released by union finance minister Arun Jaitley as “Chunavi Jumla” on the pattern of poll document released before Lok Sabha Poll in 2014, Phoolka said that the he remained silent on the much awaited implementation of Swaminathan Committee’s report.
“For peasantry of Punjab, where several farmers have already committed suicide due to being under heavy debt, implementation of Swaminathan Committee was must to save farmers of Punjab”, he said.
“Our AAP government in Delhi wanted to implement some of the key clauses of Swaminathan Committee in Delhi, but Modi led NDA government did not allow it. However, in Punjab AAP was committed to implement the report”, he added.
Phoolka said that even Jaitley abruptly opposed to make “Poll Manifesto” as legal binding for all political parties, which AAP had strongly advocated. “This shows that BJP was never serious while making poll promises”, he said.
