Glittering, a picture of munificence, 42 year ‘young’ Ruby Dhalla, a former member of House of Commons in Canada representing Brampton-Springdale in Ontario state is someone you can’t stop looking at in political rallies. She is here leading a band of NRIs from Canada who are canvassing for the victory of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP alliance. For the last two weeks, the Canadian-born-Indian, Ruby, a Liberal party nominee served her country from 2004 to 2011 as an MP. She, these days is travelling through dusty villages of Punjab, clad in pure Punjabi dress; Ruby is at home speaking fluent Punjabi in English accent. She spoke to Rajinder Singh Taggar of DailyPost.
Is something special happening in Punjab with your presence?
Han ji, bahut kujh nawa nawa ho reha hai, (Yes; there are a lot of new things happening), she says. I am meeting thousands of people in rural Punjab and trying to convince them that SAD-BJP government is best suited to the people.
Do you think people will get influenced with what you are preaching?
Yes, I am sure, my brothers and sisters will accept my logic and vote for the SAD-BJP alliance. The Parkash Singh Badal led government will get a third consecutive chance to serve the people.
Why should people be voting for the SAD-BJP alliance?
They have brought all around development. See the roads, flyovers and lot of other things.
But, NRIs are also campaigning for Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Yes; I agree that some NRIs are also campaigning for the Congress and AAP but then they are in a very small number. For SAD-BJP plane loads are coming.
What if you lose?
Oh, yes; winning or losing is part of the game. That is why we say India is world’s second largest democracy.
