Diana Hayden pregnant: Former Miss India Diana Hayden is pregnant with twins conceived from eggs she froze three years ago. Talking about her first baby , she was 40 when she fell in love with and married American Collin Dick. But that was also when she discovered that she had endometriosis, a painful condition of the uterus that is also a cause of infertility for many women. Women with endometriosis may not always produce good quality eggs. That is when Hayden decided to thaw her frozen eggs for a test-tube baby. In January 2016, she gave birth to her first child who was similarly conceived from an egg frozen eight years ago.Human oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing) is a procedure to preserve a woman’s eggs. The eggs are extracted, frozen and stored. The intention of the procedure is that, in the future, the woman may choose to have the eggs thawed, fertilized, and transferred to the uterus as embryos to facilitate a pregnancy.“Her pregnancies prove how infertility techniques have improved over the years,” said infertility specialist Dr Nandita Phalshetkar. Egg-freezing is one of the techniques available for women to plan pregnancies later in life. It was technically challenging to freeze eggs until a decade ago, but newer techniques have changed all that, said Dr Hrishikesh Pai who along with Dr Phalshetkar is treating the former Miss India.
