Google dedicates doodle to Gazal singer Begum Akhtar birth anniversary. Google marked the 103rd birth anniversary of well-known singer ‘Mallika-e-Ghaza’ Begum Akhtar with a Doodle today.
The doodle depicts her playing the sitar with fans admiring and applauding her work.Akhtari Bai Faizabadi, also known as Begum Akhtar, was a well known Indian singer of Ghazal, Dadra, and Thumri genres of Hindustani classical music.Begum Akhtar, born on October 7, 1914, in Faizabad, was known by the title Mallika-e-Ghazal in India. She began singing at the age of fifteen, and despite opposition from her family towards her inclination towards music, Akhtar made her mark in the field of music.She was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi award for vocal music and was posthumously awarded Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by Govt. of India. The singer passed away on October 30, 1974, after a brief illness.
