Would any Bollywood big names would be outed for trying to do more than dance around trees with the army of starlets trying to make a name for themselves in the Indian film industry? Well, it seems that despite having a no-sex on-screen policy in Bollywood, the same thing doesn’t extend to behind the scenes, as a growing number of actresses have started to speak out about sexual harassment and the pressures to succumb to the casting couch.Among those has been Bollywood beauty turned Baywatch babe, Priyanka Chopra, whose mum recently revealed that the star had missed out on at least 10 high profile projects after standing up for herself against sexual harassment, starting from when she was still a teenage unknown.
She revealed that the former Miss World, who took Hollywood by storm in her role as Alex Parrish in the hit TV show Quantico, was just 17 when she was propositioned by a Bollywood big name who has not been named. In an interview with an Indian newspaper, Priyanka’s mum, Madhu said: ‘She was just 17 when she entered the industry, so I accompanied her every minute of the day til about three years ago.‘So a gentleman meets her and says: “Will your mother sit outside while I narrate the story to you?” Priyanka told him: “If it is a story that my mother can’t hear then it is a story that I cannot do.”‘ ‘A designer told her that the director’s brief was to dress her in itsy-bitsy clothes. The director had said: “What is the point of having a Miss World in front of the camera if we cannot show her as her beautiful self?”‘Priyanka refused to do the film. It was being helmed by a reputed director and he got upset. Priyanka lost 10 films because she walked out of that project. But she didn’t care. That is what I say to everyone. This is not the end of your life. Your life is more valuable.’ Mama Chopra, who gave up her career as a doctor to support Priyanka has been a vocal supporter of her daughter.
When Priyanka was trolled for wearing a showing her legs in a short dress at a meeting with India PM Narendra Modi, the actress posted a picture of herself and her mum in short skirts with the caption ‘it’s in the gene’.
