Khanna not only charmed his fans with his dashing looks and romantic avatar, he also started out as a villain. The actor was known prominently for roles like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Mere Apne, Kachhe Dhaage, Imtihaan, Inkaar, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Amar Akbar Anthony, Rajput, The Burning Train, to name a few. He was father of actors Akshaye and Rahul Khanna.Gulzar spotted him and identified his true abilities. The actor Vinod was cast in lead roles in Gulzar’s films Mere Apne (1972) and Achanak (1973) and he definitely did justice to the script.Khanna is also the first Bollywood actor who left films at the peak of his career and followed his heart in spirituality. His spiritual journey took him to Osho and he became the discipline of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in 1975. Apparently, in the early 80s, he shifted his base to Rajneeshpuram, US.The actor also proved his worth as a politician later and has served as Minister of State for External Affairs in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.
