Director Sukhwinder Singh’s tryst with animation dates back to 2004 when he started working on his first 2D animation film Sahibzadey. Encouraged by response received by the film, he went on to direct four more animated films under the banner Vismaad to educate the young generation about Sikhism and connect them to Punjabi virsa. Taking another step in the same direction, he has now come up with 3D animation film Bhai Taru Singh. As the title suggests, the film is based on the life of Bhai Taru Singh who sacrificed his life to save Sikhi.“The aim of the film is to educate the youngsters about our rich history. They should feel proud to be Sikhs,” says Sukhwinder who was in Chandigarh on Wednesday for the music launch of the film, which is hitting theatres on April 27. PTC has collaborated with Vismaad as music partner and taken up on themselves the responsibility to promote soulful and meaningful music that promote Punjabiyat.Present at the music launch of the film were Rabindra Narayan, Managing Director and President PTC Network, Punjabi singer Pammi Bai, music composer Atul Sharma and actress-singer Satinder Satti, who are of the view that such films are the biggest gifts that one can give to the society. “The generation of today is far away from the teachings of Sikh Gurus. As a result, they are living an unbalanced life. We are concerned about them and want them to connect to Punjabi virsa to live a balanced life,” says Satinder.Talk to Sukhwinder about the idea of making a animation film on Sikh history, and he shares. “My target audience are kids. Most of them don’t know about Sikhism and our history. I believe that making animated films is the best way to reach out to them. “They love animated films so much that they can watch one film more than 50 times.” With Bhai Taru Singh, Sukhwinder assures us that it will strike the emotional cord of audience. “You will not feel like leaving your seats when the film ends,” he says signing off.
