Mumbai: Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar, actorsRishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit among others from the film industry have expressed grief over the passing of veteran theatre and film actor Sulabha Deshpande. Deshpande, who had acted in numerous Marathi and Hindi films, died at her Mumbai residence yesterday after a prolonged illness, family sources said. She was 79. Paying tribute to the late actress, Mangeshkar, wrote, “Sulabha Deshpande ji, a very good actress, is not among us anymore. I am deeply saddened. Her father Vasant Kamerkar ji managed the Marathi music department of HMV.
He recorded many of my songs. We were like family. “Sulabha ji worked in several Marathi, Hindi films besides serials and dramas. She also starred in Usha (sister)’s film ‘Jait re Jait’. I pay my emotional tribute to her,” the 86-year-old singer posted on Twitter. Rishi said, “RIP. Sulabha Deshpande. Worked with both her and her late husband Arvind Deshpande in the film ‘Duniya’.” “Sad to know about the demise of Sulabha Deshpandeji.
What a lovely, warm person and wonderful actress!” Madhuri tweeted. Anil posted, “#SulabhaDeshpande had that rare ability to express volumes with just a meaningful look…a great & deep loss for theatre & films! #RIP.” Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarakar said, “Sad to hear about Sulabha Deshpande. Will always be remembered for her immense Contribution to Marathi theatre & Hindi Cinema. #RIP.” Marathi and Hindi film actor Sreyas Talapade wrote, “Sulabhatai Deshpande you will be truly missed. The amount of honesty, sincerity and warmth that you got in your performances was unparalleled.” Comic actor Rajpal Yadav said, “Saddened about the passing of such a wonderful actress. #RIP #SulabhaDeshpande.” PTI
