JK Rowling defends Johnny Depp: Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has defended the decision to cast Johnny Depp in the next Fantastic Beasts movie after a backlash from fans unhappy about the circumstances of the actor’s recent divorce. Rowling’s comments mark the latest in an ongoing controversy that dates back to the original release of the first film in the new series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.The end of that movie reveals that the film’s antagonist, Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) is actually the infamous dark wizard Grindelwald in disguise. When his identity is revealed, he’s played in a short sequence by actor Johnny Depp.JK rowling said the circumstances of Depp’s 2016 divorce from actress Amber Heard were private and should be respected. The Warner Bros movie, due to be released in November 2018, is the second of a planned five movie spin off franchise from the blockbuster Harry Potter films.“Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies. “I’ve loved writing the first two screenplays and I can’t wait for fans to see The Crimes Of Grindelwald. “I accept that there will be those who are not satisfied with our choice of actor in the title role. However, conscience isn’t governable by committee’’ she added.
