For newbie actor Arsh Bajwa, there’s nothing called talent, as he believes, “It’s only your passion and obsession for something that make you an achiever. Passionately done hard work will never leave you disappointed.”
Not only this, but also the actor shares many interesting stories during an interactive session with dailylife on Thursday. Hailing from a small town in Jalandhar, Punjab, Arsh shares that he comes from a family where nobody has even been to a theatre to watch a film.
“My family members are really simple. They don’t even have an idea as to what the profession of acting is all about. If one fine day I win an Oscar, they’ll be like ‘Bahot vadhiya putt, aaja hun roti khaiye’,” says Arsh as he introduces us to his family background.
The actor is making his debut in the tinsel town with Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming production venture Running Shaadi.com. The film stars actors Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles.
Talking about getting his part in the film, Arsh shares, “I never knew if I wanted to be an actor, though I always wanted to do something different. But one thing that I always believe in is that if I get into something, I will give my 100 per cent.”
He will be seen playing the character of Cyberjeet Singh, a Sikh guy who is a computer freak and really really messy.
“When I say messy, trust me it is way more than what you imagine. He is a fat guy, who sits in front of his computer all the time, doesn’t take shower for a month, and doesn’t dress up well. He is a geek. “So, when I auditioned for this role in Chandigarh, I had six-pack abs. And now you can see how I look as Cyberjeet,” laughs Arsh.
Not only playing this character, but the entire acting experience has transformed Arsh greatly.
He says, “You know, when you look into a mirror, you feel that you are very good looking. But when you get out, especially in a city like Mumbai, you see that everybody looks great. People are really smart.
“However, to be part of this film and working with all these amazing people is nothing less than a blessing for me,” adds the actor.
The film was short in 2014 and it took quite a long time for its release. So, were you worried about the delay as it’s your first film, we ask?
“Honestly,” he quips, “I was so sure that Shoojit sir will never invest in a weak script. And, his investment was much more than we invested as actors.”
Arsh goes on to add, “Moreover, now I have become the kind of a person who has strict expectations. I don’t believe in planning things anymore. All I believe in is luck and hard work. Rest everything follows.”
He calls himself a character oriented actor, but it doesn’t mean that doing lead roles in mainstream films is not his dream.
“I have the full right to be a mainstream actor. These are not only good looks with which you can be one. And mind it, I don’t look that bad too,” laughs Arsh, and grabs his mobile phone to shows his portfolio before playing Cyberjeet.
On a parting note, he says, “I just want to live all the characters that I will play in future and I won’t restrict my boundaries as an actor. But again, there’s no plan.”
Running Shaadi.com will hit the cinema theatres on February 17.
