Gauri Lankesh’s murder making international headlines
Jalandhar(DP Correspondent, Sept 11) – The state president of Bhartiya Republic Party (BRP) Kumari Santosh Monday said that the brutal murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh has shamed the country over attack on free press at the national and international level. Bhartiya Republican Party’s national president Dr Parkash Rao Ambedkar is the grandson of Dr BR Ambedkar. She said that being a Kannad based journalist in Bengaluru, Gauri’s readership was limited to a particular region but her cold blooded murder brought her thinking at the national level.“Worldwide acclaimed leading media houses like BBC and Al-Zajeera were showing the murder of Gauri Lankesh, as threat to free press in India. This incident has become blot on the international image of our country”, she said. Santosh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was attacking Pakistan over barbaric incidents but now India too was following in the same footsteps. “An atmosphere of terror was being created in the society, hence threatening free thinkers, journalists and writers to toe the line of Right Wing ideologists”, she added. The party president also said that India was a democratic country but Modi government was leaving no stone unturned in forcing the country to become a ‘Hindu Nation’. “Such incidents of violence were a direct challenge to Dr BR Ambedkar’s constitution, which defines India as a democracy”, she emphasized. On RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statements that India’s name was shining at the global level under the leadership of PM Modi, the NRP president said that after incidents of attack on free thinkers, India’s name was already rising at the international level. She also said that the murder of Gauri Lankesh was one in the series of brutal murders of Narendra Dhabolkar, Govind Pansare and SS Kalburgi in the recent years. “We are committed to defeat the ill-minded ideology of such Hindutva ideologists in the country”, she said.
