Lucknow: Department of Food and Supply is now preparing for distribution of grocery items in rural areas with the biometric system as the pattern of urban areas. With the introduction of the biometric system, where on the one hand the arbitrariness of retail dealers of rural areas will be stopped, the card holders will get the grocery items on the fixed price.
Last year, the Food and Supplies Department had decided to implement the biometric system on grocery shops due to the complaints of irregularities in the public distribution system. This system was started from March 2016 in Agra and Firozabad cities. Uttar Pradesh has more than 80,000 shops under public distribution system.Whereas more than 66 thousand ‘Rashan shops’ are situated in rural areas. After implementing the biometric system in urban area shops, the Food and Agriculture Department has now wants to implement this system in rural areas. The proposal for implementation of this provision has been prepared and sent to the senior committee headed by the Chief Secretary.
