Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday participated in the Gurpurab celebrations at the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal here. In his address to the devotees, he said he had deep regards for the Sikh gurus as their teachings always inspired him in his life. Extending greetings to the Sikh community on the occasion, PM Modi started his address with ‘Whaeguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh’ slogan. While speaking about the Sikh principles, Modi said: “Langar is not about food service. It is a Sanskar. This great service teaches us to shun the discrimination that too in a very simple manner.” “Keeping full faith in Gurbani, I can strongly say that each and every word of Gurbani gives us more strength,” he added.The prime minister also recounted some of the efforts initiated with regard to facilitating Sikh populace including the Udaan Yojana.He said the opening of Kartarpur corridor has the blessings of Guru Nanak Devi ji.” “What happened in 1947 had various reasons and implications and I don’t want to go in detail but I can just say that if people connect with each other then it is a key to unity. And we are staunch admirers of unity and peace among the world,” he added.
He said that similarly, Kartarpur Sahib corridor would play an important role in enhancing people to people contact between India and Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Sukhbir Singh Badal thanked the prime minister and his cabinet colleagues for all decisions taken by the Union cabinet to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 2019 and showering the largesse to facilitate the Sikh community on the occasion.Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with his wife, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Radha Soami sect head Gurinder Singh, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK, general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa were, among others, who attended the event during which different preachers recited the Shabad Kirtan.
