Chadigarh: In view of the rainy season, Haryana Minister of State for Public Health Engineering, Dr Banwari Lal on Wednesday issued directions to Superintending Engineers of the Department from all districts to provide people with clean drinking water after its proper chlorination to protect them from water borne diseases. He also directed them to undertake one year contract for maintenance and repair of motors to ensure better drinking water supply in rural areas. This would ensure proper functioning of motors.
He was presiding over a review meeting regarding drinking water supply, sewerage and water treatment works with Superintending Engineers of Public Health Engineering Department from all districts in Panchkula, on Wednesday. He directed for proper chlorination of water in water works, repair of non-functional pumps, checking leakages, prevention of water logging, rejuvenation of channels and ensure functioning of water treatment plants.
He also directed them to formulate such projects under the available budget of the Department which could be effectively implemented. During the meeting, the minister also heard the problems being faced by officers and issued appropriate directions to resolve them. Regarding shortage of staff, he said that he would speak to chief minister and soon recruitment of Junior Engineers would be undertaken. Directions were also issued to promote Sub Divisional Officer and Junior Engineer.
