THE ISSUES OF FARMERS AND EMPLOYEES MAY INCREASE THE PROBLEMS OF THE RULING BJP
RAVINDER SINGH MALIK
In the wake of the Budget session beginning on Wednesday, the Opposition has planned to take on the government. Besides, the issues pertaining to the farmers and employees are likely to compound the problems of the ruling BJP. The issues of farmers are of utmost importance as all parties would raise these during the session. The recent hailstorm across the state caused a huge loss to the farmers. In view of forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) would raise this issue prominently. It is pertinent to mention that the hailstorm led to a heavy loss to the farmers in 2016, but the compensation for the same still remains unpaid. The farmers are reeling under debt for long so the issue of exempting the farmers’ debt will also be raised. Besides, the sugar mills have not paid the dues to the farmers for a long time. Amid all this, the contractual employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM) continue to protest against the policies of the state government as their strike entered the 15th day on Tuesday. About 13,000 employees are demonstrating and because of this patients are suffering in hospitals of the state. The BJP’s problem would also be increased because of the charges levelled by the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) against CM Manohar Lal Khattar.
