Chandigarh: Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, said that moral education would be introduced as a subject for students of Classes VI to X plus two in the State. The subject would be formally launched at a state-level programme to be held in the auditorium of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, on July 5, 2016.
The Minister was presiding over a meeting held here on Saturday with senior officers of Education and allied departments regarding preparations for the programme. He said that the programme would be attended by Governor, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor, Himachal Pradesh, Acharya Dev Vrat, Gita scholar Swami Gyananand, Acharya Balkrishna, Ministers of Central and state governments and other prominent personalities of the area. He said that as all religions focused on character building, extracts from religious texts such as Bhagavad Gita, Quran, the Bible and Guru Granth Sahib had been incorporated in the curriculum of the subject.
Different textbooks would be prescribed for each class. The Haryana Government has prepared the curriculum in collaboration with social organisations and educationists, he added. Those present in the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), School Education, P K Das, ACS, Higher Education and Cultural Affairs, Vijai Vardhan, Principal Secretary and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi and other senior officers.DP
