Chandigarh: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, O P Dhankar, said that with a view to ensure that farmers get the best remuneration for their produce, post-harvest activities would also be demonstrated at Centres of Excellence in the State.
The Minister, who was visiting a unit of Apio Inc. in California, USA, along with a delegation of the Department, said that farmers would now be taught techniques of value addition, packaging and pricing protocols and how to identify and connect with the appropriate market. He said that the technologies being used by the company could be used to fulfil the vision of Haryana Government to develop peri-urban agriculture in the State.
Expressing keen interest in Haryana, Chief Executive Officer, Apio Inc., Molly Hemmeter, informed the delegation that the company had developed ‘BreatheWay’ modified atmosphere technology used to keep fruits and vegetables fresh for longer periods.
During the visit, the delegation studied the farm-to-table model being adopted in Salinas Valley and Santa Maria, besides observing the harvesting, cleaning and packaging of cauliflower. DP
