Chandigarh: The ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana’ (PMJDY) has generated tremendous response in Haryana as 52,16,202 bank accounts, including 9,29,724 ‘Zero Balance’ accounts, have been opened under this scheme up to April 2016. This was revealed in a meeting of State Level Financial Inclusion Committee (SLIFC) on PMJDY held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, D S Dhesi, here on Wednesday.
The meeting was convened by State Level Bankers’ Committee. The Chief Secretary said that all Deputy Commissioners would be instructed to review the scheme on monthly basis and launch a campaign so that more people could avail the benefit of the scheme. It may be recalled that the PMJDY was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014. It was informed in the meeting that 53 per cent bank accounts have been opened in rural areas and 47 per cent in urban areas of Haryana. It was also informed that under this scheme, 43,23,401 RuPay Cards have been issued, out of which 27,84,807 cards have been activated up to April.
Similarly, 6,80,076 RuPay cards were issued to Zero Balance account holders. Out of these 1,56,541 cards have been activated up to April. As many as 37,32,854 accounts have been Aadhaar-seeded under the PMJDY. The implementation of the social security schemes, namely ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana’(PMSBY), ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana’(PMJJBY) and ‘Atal Pension Yojana’ (APY) was also reviewed in the meeting. It was informed that 24,47,954 persons were enrolled under PMSBY and 22,76,662 records have been uploaded by the banks up to April.
Similarly, 7,95,956 persons have been enrolled under PMJJBY and 7,01,591 applications have been uploaded by the banks. Under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, loans to the tune of Rs 110.41 crore have been disbursed to 12,095 account holders,including 3,107 women. It was informed in the meeting that ‘Stand-up India’ scheme was launched by the Prime Minister on April 5, 2016, after which, 178 beneficiaries have been sanctioned loans amounting to Rs 35.37 crore.
