Chandigarh: Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij said that a high level inquiry will be conducted to look into the allegations levelled against Haryana Cricket Association. Vij gave this assurance to international cricketer Chetan Sharma, who called on him here on Wednesday and urged him to get the allegations of alleged corruption and irregularities committed by Haryana Cricket Association be probed. The Minister said that Sharma has leveled serious allegations of corruption, financial irregularities, mismanagement and nepotism against Haryana Cricket Association. Vij said that strict actions would be taken against those found guilty.
It may be recalled that Haryana Cricket Association is attached to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Vij said that even earlier he had been receiving complaints regarding irregularities committed by some sports organisations and action was being taken on these complaints.He said that the authenticity of many sports organisations had been questioned as a result of which the atmosphere of sports was being adversely affected since the tenure of previous government. He said that in view of these complaints, he has directed the Registrar of Firms and Societies to investigate the legality, records and accounts of all such sports bodies. Only after getting No Objection Certificate from Registrar, Firms and Societies, the sports bodies would continue with their work in future.
He said that during the regime of previous governments, not even a single international cricket stadium was constructed in any of the 21 districts in the state. During the regime of previous Congress Government, despite the release of grant of about Rs 250 to Rs 260 crore, there was no positive results in improvement of cricket infrastructure in seven years. He said that slogan of ‘No. 1 Haryana’ was being hailed but no concrete step was taken to strengthen infrastructure for promotion of cricket. He added that Kapil Dev and many other international players were born in Haryana. He said that the state was not producing many cricketers because of corruption.
