Chandigarh: Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kavita Jain said that with a view to facilitating persons with disabilities and senior citizens, the state government is preparing a scheme to appoint 1,000 caregivers. The minister was speaking at a conference of State Social Justice and Empowerment Ministers, Secretaries and Administrators of Union Territories on matters related to persons with disabilities in New Delhi.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawar Chand Gehlot was the chief guest in the conference, in which ministers of 12 states participated.Jain said that the scheme would be implemented in a phased manner and the caregivers would be provided special training by the government. Jain said that the number of caregivers would be increased as per requirement. Jain also urged the Central government to release second installment for the year 2015-16 under NSAP scheme and to incorporate the scheme related to persons taking care of disabled persons in the Central government’s National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. She also emphasised to initiate awareness campaign to cover students of government schools under ‘Hamrahi Abhiyan’.
She said that Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India should be linked under an action plan with the objective of rejuvenation of District Disability Rehabilitation Centres in each district of the state. She said that it was necessary to establish at least one skill development centre for disabled persons in each district, besides setting up a centre for identification of disabled persons. She also urged the Central government to set up Cochlear Implant Training Centre and Rehabilitation Skill Development Institute in Gurgaon.
