Chandigarh – Thousands of people are expected to participate in yoga events, which is to be organised at various places on the eve of 4th International Yoga Day across Chandigarh on Thursday. A large amount of people from Tricity are going to participate in the events and initiatives organised by the government, various NGO’s, schools, educational institutions and medical institutes across the city. International Yoga Day, declared by the United Nations is observed every year on June 21. Various yoga associations across the city organise special training camps well in advance from the penultimate day. People from all walks of life perform yoga on this day and practice yoga asanas and meditation. Apart from yoga sessions and events organised by various NGO’s, government aided departments and edu cational institutes, the general public also practice yoga and meditation at various green belts, parks, socities and public places in the city and even across Mohali and Panchkula.PGIMER
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, an event from 7 am to 8 am on Thursday will be organised at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) by the ministry of AYUSH. The event to mark the 4th International Yoga Day will be held at the Institute Sports Complex. Director of PGIMER Prof Jagat Ram will be the chief guest for this event, and the Guest of Honor will be Dean Academics Prof Rajesh Kumar. This event is expected to be graced by around 300 participants including students and employees. Sector-17 Plaza One of the major attraction for yoga events on International Yoga Day is the Sector 17 Plaza. More than 4,000 people are expected to participate in yoga and meditation sessions which will be kickstart from 7 am on Thursday. The guest of honour for the event would be Textile Minister Smriti Irani, whereas Governor VP Singh Badnore will be the chief guest of this event. The participants are expected to join from various police departments, various yoga associations, yoga and yoga-training colleges and schools across the city. The event is scheduled to start with a live speech by the Prime Minister, to be displayed on a screen installed at the Plaza. The entry to Sector-17 Plaza will open from 5 am. Four gates have been made available for entry of participants to this event, amid tight security by around 1,000 CRPF jawans being deployed for this yoga event.
Various events will be organised at various schools and educational institutes across the city on Thursday. Many students and faculty members of these educational institutions are expected to participate in yoga asanas and meditation. Various institutes which would be organising these yoga events would be Panjab University, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RNIYD) Regional Centre, and various city schools. Apart from events at various health and educational institutes across the city, locations such as Sukhna Lake, Exhibition ground at Sector 34 and sports institutions in the city have also been the venues for these yoga events over the years.
