Shimla: Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh on Saturday hailed the statement of Prime Minister, Narender Modi on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) and said not only Kashmir, POK is also a part of India.
Talking to media persons here after inaugurating the Children Park named ‘Bal Pramod Van’ and residences of Pujaris at Jakhu temple, Virbhadra Singh said the people living in so called POK were being forced to live in fear. He said the Baluch community in Baluchistan was also subjected to atrocities which should be avoided. “The neighbouring country should adopt corrective measures and in no way should eye on the Indian territory,” he said.
Referring to the dalit issue, which had ignited a nationwide debate following the battering of members of the community for skinning dead cattle in Una in Gujarat, the Chief Minster said that skinning of cows was a very old profession being undertaken by the community since ages.“We should rather respect the profession and give full honour to those who were involved in such profession”, he said.
Singh said that it was shameful on part of few who assaulted the Dalit brethren. “As the Skinning of Cow and Buffalos was associated with their profession which helps them economically, such acts are likely to be condemned.” He said that many leather products were made out of such skin which also benefits the community doing the business.
He said that the Prime Minister should have made statement in Parliament on the issue of atrocities on dalits instead on public forum. Chief Minister alleged that when the house is in session, such statements should be made in the House, whether Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.
“The Parliament is an appropriate platform to issue such statements and the Prime Minister should have given statement on dalits in Parliament and not for the sake of mere ‘damage control’.”
Singh said in Himachal Pradesh, the government had constituted ‘Gauvansh Samvhardan Board’ for the protection of cows and other stray cattle, besides to provide them shelter. The government would open shelter homes for such stray cattle all over the state in a phased manner so that they could be properly fed and looked after.
On GST, Singh said that Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an initiative of the UPA government and at the very moment, it was opposed by the BJP. “Now, when the path is through, I will only say ‘Der Aaye Darust Aayed’, he said, adding that GST was a big reform that will bring about a unified common market in the country.
