Kangra: Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday said he was not against cricket as a game, but the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association should have a democratically elected body. “It has been pointed out time and again that the government has no problem if HPCA gets itself registered under the co-operative Act,” he told media persons in Kangra. Singh said only the kith and kin of few politicians were the members of the HPCA. “Anurag Thakur, the secretary BCCI, who is also the president of HPCA, keeps on criticizing the government without realizing the fact that even the Supreme Court had observed on the report of Lodha Committee that it won’t be hoodwinked by the Cricket associations who were not registered as per norms.
The apex court also pointed out that Indian cricket board and unregistered sports bodies does not have an inalienable right to make money,” he said. The Chief Minister said as soon as the Justice Lodha panel came out with the set of recommendations to restructure the Indian Cricket Board and make it a more transparent body, it was much for Anurag Thakur to be palpable. “The Lodha Committee had reported that not any son or daughter of any politician would become member of sports body and the elections should be held in transparent and democratic manner to elect the body of sports associations,” he said. He said there should be transparency in all sports associations and to say that Virbhadra Singh was against cricket was absolute mere assumptions of Anurag Thakur. He said the government never refused for the T-20 world cup as few matches of this world cup were played at Dharamsala and now the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches were likely to be played in May.
Reacting on the issue of inquiries into his property, Singh said that it was all politically motivated and the opposition was hatching conspiracy to defame him and his family members. “My income tax related cases are at different stages in various courts and despite it, the enforcement directorate, the CBI, the income tax authorities are probing the same case, which was being done due to political vendetta.” ENDS I have no intimation on Sonia’s visit to HP: CM BOX Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh said his office had not received any official communication on Congress President, Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the state. He said he himself had requested Sonia Gandhi to visit Himachal Pradesh to inaugurate one of the biggest hydel project in Kinnaur. “However, no official confirmation had been received so far.” He was replying to the media queries on Sonia’s proposed visit Nagrota for a local function at the instance of Transport minister, GS Bali.
