Shimla: BJP MP from Hamirpur and president of Bharatiya Jan Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Anurag Thakur on Friday attended the one-day kisan mela organised at Krishi Vigyaan Kendra, Berthin in Bilaspur. The krishi sammelan was organised by the Union Agricultural Mnistry to raise awareness about farmer welfare schemes, specifically about the recent launch of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). Thakur talked about the Prime Minister’s dream of doubling the farmers’ income in the coming years and various irrigation and farmer friendly schemes launched in this regard. He said that double fold increase in outlay set for Agriculture and Farmers welfare to `22,958 crore in 2015-2016 from `44,485 crore in 2016-2017 showed the commitment of government towards the benefit of farmers. Thakur said that “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana” was one of the most farmer friendly measures taken by the Modi government under which the government was providing the biggest ever contribution to crop insurance. “ The farmers will have to pay the lowest-ever premium rate, as the government will be bearing the remaining financial burden and unlike the previous crop insurance schemes, there will be only one premium rate each season for all food grains, oilseeds and pulses ,removing variation in rates across crops and districts within one season,” he said.
