Shimla: Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Thursday accorded warm welcome to the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on his arrival at Kalyani helipad in Shimla on Thursday afternoon. The President is on five-day visit to the state and will stay at The Retreat, President’s summer holiday resort on the outskirts of Shimla. Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of the President of India is accompanying him. He will preside over the convocation of IGMC on June 3 at Peterh off and later in the evening he is to attend state banquet at Raj Bhawan.
An army of cops, including nine Superintendents of Police, 19 gazetted officers and 1100 Police personnel in uniform and plain clothes have been deployed round the clock in and around The Retreat, Raj Bhawan, Peterh off and other places to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the President. A release by Additional Director General of Police, Sanjay Kundu said here that Inspector General of Police, Himanshu Mishra has been appointed overall incharge, Daljeet Thakur, State CID AS State Security Officer and District Police Chief, DW Negi as the incharge for the uniformed duties during the- visit of President.
“In view of the President’s visit, a video-conferencing was held with all the district Police Chiefs on May 28. Inter-state barriers have been put in place and nakabandis are being conducted to prevent the entry of anti-social elements in the state. A sharp look out is being maitained on the activists who can be threat to the VVIP and beat patrolling has been intensified to check activities of anti-social elements,” ADGP, Sanjay Kundu said.
