Shimla: Flights in Jubbarhatti airport near Shimla resumed on Thursday again after a gap of three and a half years due to consistent efforts of state government. Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma flagged off a flight of Air Himalayas from Shimla to Gaggal at Jubbarhatti Airport here. He also boarded the flight to mark the commencement of the service. Sharma said that this would provide good air connectivity in the state besides boosting tourism activities especially high-end tourists. He said that efforts were afoot to start scheduled flights in near future in the State and added that government was pursuing this matter continuously to facilitate tourists.
He welcomed the efforts of Air Himalayas for starting the flights and added that HIMUDA was constructing Satellite Township near Jubbarhatti airport which would beautify the surrounding area. Airport road would also be expanded, he added. Sharma said that the nine seater non scheduled aircraft would operate minimum six flights per day in the state between Shim la-Dharams hala-Shimla, Dharamshala-Shimla-Chandigarh and Chandigarh-Kullu.
