Kusum Arora , Jalandhar, July 3:-Following look out notice, the Immigration officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Delhi airport on Monday detained industrialist Prateek Gupta, who was wanted in Rs 86 crore Hoshiarpur Land Scam.A team of Vigilance Bureau (VB) Jalandhar officials has been dispatched to Delhi to bring Prateek Gupta on production warrant from Delhi on Tuesday.Ever since the land scam was exposed and action against the former Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Anand Sagar Sharma, the VB officials had issued look out notice for Prateek Gupta.Talking to Daily Post SSP Vigilance Sareen Kumar said that Prateek Gupta was detained by the IGI Airport police on Monday afternoon. “As per information, he was heading to Nepal for the treatment of his mother, when he was detained by the police. The previous SSP Vigilance has issued look out notice against Prateek Gupta after which action was taken”, he said.
The SSP said that Prateek would be taken on remand for further investigation. Sources maintained that Prateek Gupta was a close confidante of a senior BJP leader in Hoshiarpur and reportedly he was not even aware that a look out notice was issued against him.It is pertinent to mention here that industrialist Prateek Gupta had bought 442 marla colony in Khawaspur village in Hoshiapur at Rs 30,000 per marla but sold the same chunk of land at a whopping rate of Rs 7 lakh per marla.Rajiv Vashisht, the Hoshiarpur based RTI activist who exposed the land scam said that Prateek Gupta minted close to Rs 15 crore through this deal in connivance with the then SDM Anand Sagar Sharma.The Hoshiarpur land scam pertains to land acquisition done for the four laning National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) project of Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar stretch.Earlier last month, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had registered a case against former SDM Anand Sagar Sharma and other under Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002.
