$8 Garage Sale Brooch Fetches $26,000 at Auction. The diamond, emerald and ruby brooch, circa 1900, was purchased for $8 dollars(500 rupees) in Ohio five years ago as a piece of costume jewelry by a person and gave it to his daughter. According to the auction house, the owner of the brooch gave it to her daughter to wear to church but she placed it in the bottom of her handbag and forgot about it. On a chance visit to a jeweler many months later, she pulled out the brooch and was sharing the story about how she acquired it. The jeweler told her it was a piece of fine jewelry and the diamonds were real.She took the jewel to Bonhams’ jewelry team and they determined that the emeralds and rubies were real as well. It was placed as part of the New York sale with a $20,000 – $30,000 estimate. The Gemological Institute of America investigated the brooch and confirmed its value. Later this was sold for $ 26,000 or 16 lakhs 90 thousand rupees.
