Iraq twin bombings: The death toll in twin suicide bombings in Iraq’s capital Baghdad on Monday has risen to 38, the local media reports. Iraq officials confirmed the death toll. The explosions took place in central Baghdad’s Tayaran Square which is usually crowded by labourers seeking work, local media reports said. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. The German foreign ministry condemned the devastating attack in Baghdad and expressed its condolences to the families of those killed.
The attack in Aviation Square was one of the deadliest in Baghdad since a massive truck bomb killed at least 324 people in the nearby commercial district of Karrada in July 2016. The blasts come after Iraq’s security forces recently retook nearly all the territories once held by the Islamic State (ISIS).
