In the case of the murder of a British police officer, a petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court to prove martyr Bhagat Singh as innocent. About seven months ago the court had said that the hearing on the petition would be heard by the higher bench. The court has not yet formed a higher bench for this purpose.Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, a lawyer of Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, appealed for an early hearing on the petition. Qureshi said “I appeal to the Lahore High Court for the fast proceedings in Bhagat Singh case. Today I have requested the registrar to determine the date of the hearing.It is expected that the hearing will start from this month”.He said that by writing a letter to the federal government, demanding installation of statue of Bhagat at Shadman Chowk (main part of Lahore), where the jail was situated and hanged along with Rajguru and Sukhdev. A Bench of Lahore High Court had appealed to the Chief Justice in February to make a higher bench to hear the case of Bhagat Singh.In his petition, Qureshi has said that Bhagat Singh was a freedom fighter, who had struggled for independence before partition of India. Bhagat Singh was hanged on March 23, 1931 by British commanders at the age of 23. They had been accused of conspiracy against the British Empire.
