Shimla – Amidst cheers from massive gathering at the historic Ridge Shimla on Wednesday Jai Ram Thakur, 52, was administered the oath of office and secrecy as the 13th Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh by Governor Acharya Devvrat in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. It was the first time that in the history of Himachal Pradesh that the Prime Minister was present at the swearing ceremony of the Chief Minister. Apart from the Chief Minister, 11 other Cabinet ministers were also administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Governor. The new Cabinet ministers include Mahender Singh Thakur, Kishan Kapoor, Suresh Bhardwaj, Anil Sharma, Sarveen Chaudhary, Ram Lal Markanda, Vipin Singh Parmar, Virender Kanwar, Bikram Singh, Govind Singh Thakur and and Dr Rajiv Saizal. Suresh Bhardwaj and Govind Singh Thakur took oath in Sanskrit, while all others in Hindi. The Cabinet is complete as all 12 berths have been filled while two MLAs would be accommodated as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.Jai Ram is the first chief minister from the second largest Mandi district and the 13th Chief Minister and sixth person to adorn the office of the Chief Minister. BJP had won 44 out of 68 seats in the state assembly and after the shocking defeat of BJP’s Chief Minister face Prem Kumar Dhumal from Sujanpur, the race was open for the top post and Jai Ram Thakur was elected leader. Thousands of people from Mandi thronged the venue and danced to the tunes of traditional folk music.
